How to use the Lorem Ipsum Generator

Choose what to generate
- Paragraphs, sentences or words, from 1 up to 500.
- Start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…”: on by default, so the text begins with the traditional opening. Turn it off for fully random text.
- Wrap in <p> tags: for paragraphs, each one is wrapped in HTML paragraph tags, ready to paste into a page.
Click Generate again for a new random version, then Copy or Download it as a .txt file. The text is random each time, so two runs never match.
Why designers use placeholder text
Filler text lets you judge a layout without being distracted by the words. It looks like real text, with realistic word lengths and paragraph shapes, so you can test fonts, spacing, line lengths and wrapping before the real copy exists. The words themselves are scrambled Latin, so they carry no meaning.
Tips for using it well
- Use paragraphs for page and article mockups, sentences for cards and captions, and words for buttons, labels and titles.
- Test with the amount of text you expect. A product page with three lines looks different from one with thirty.
- Replace placeholder text before launch. Lorem ipsum left on a live page looks unfinished and does nothing for visitors or search engines.
- Try different lengths to check how your design copes with short and long content.
