What invisible characters are
An invisible character is a real character that shows as blank. They are useful when a form, profile or game will not accept an empty field, or when you want blank space that an app will not trim away. Pick a type, choose how many to copy, and click Copy invisible text.
The character types
- Hangul Filler (U+3164): the best choice for blank names in many games and apps.
- Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800): works in most apps and shows as empty space.
- Halfwidth Hangul Filler (U+FFA0): a narrower alternative to the Hangul Filler.
- Zero Width Space (U+200B), Zero Width Non-Joiner (U+200C) and Word Joiner (U+2060): take up no width at all, though some apps strip them out.
- No-Break Space (U+00A0): a normal-width space that is not trimmed as easily.
- Em Space (U+2003) and Ideographic Space (U+3000): wide blank spaces.
The Quick copy buttons copy a single character in one click. The number field lets you copy up to 1,000 at once.
Testing your character
Paste the character into the test area at the bottom. It reports the number of characters and how many of them are visible, so you can confirm that the paste worked. If a site rejects one type, try another. Different apps allow different characters.
Common uses and cautions
- Blank usernames, nicknames or messages where an empty value is not allowed. Check the platform’s rules, and do not use them to impersonate someone or to get around a ban.
- Spacing in social posts and bios. For captions, the Instagram Line Break Generator handles blank lines automatically.
- Layout tricks in text-only fields.
- Invisible characters can cause hard-to-find bugs in code, files and passwords, so do not paste them where you do not mean to.
Frequently asked questions
Which invisible character works best?
The Hangul Filler (U+3164) and Braille Blank (U+2800) work on most apps because they are treated as visible characters with no ink. Zero-width spaces are often stripped by apps.
Why does an app reject my blank name?
Some platforms block or remove invisible characters to prevent impersonation. If one type fails, try another.
Why does my app show a box or a space instead of nothing?
Fonts and apps handle these characters differently. Try another type, such as the Hangul Filler or the Braille Blank.
Can I detect invisible characters in my text?
Paste the text into the test area. The counter shows how many characters are visible compared with the total, which reveals hidden ones.
