How to use the Markdown to HTML
- Paste or write your Markdown.
- Switch between HTML code and preview.
- Copy the HTML into your site or email.
Example
| Input | # Title **Bold** and *italic* |
|---|---|
| Result | <h1>Title</h1> <p><strong>Bold</strong> and <em>italic</em></p> |
Supported Markdown
- Headings, paragraphs and horizontal rules.
- Bold, italic, strikethrough and inline code.
- Links and images.
- Bulleted, numbered and nested lists.
- Blockquotes.
- Fenced code blocks, with the language added as a class such as language-js.
- Tables, including left, centre and right alignment.
It follows common Markdown conventions, but small differences from other converters are possible, so preview the result before you publish.
HTML code or preview
The right-hand panel has two views. HTML code shows the markup you can copy or download as an .html file. Preview shows how it would look, which is handy for checking a README, an email draft or a blog post. The conversion updates as you type.
Safe by default
Link and image addresses are checked, and unsafe schemes such as “javascript:” are replaced with a harmless “#”. Text is escaped before it is converted. Even so, treat any HTML from an unknown source with care before you place it on a live site.
Tips for clean output
- Leave a blank line between blocks, such as a paragraph and a list.
- Indent nested list items by two or more spaces.
- Use three backticks around code so it keeps its spacing.
- Start each table row with a pipe and add a separator row of dashes under the header.
Next steps
To make plain text out of HTML again, use the HTML to Text Converter. Need to show code samples inside HTML? Escape them with the HTML Encoder/Decoder. You can also open a .md file with the “Open file” button instead of pasting.
Frequently asked questions
Which Markdown features are supported?
Headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, fenced code blocks, links, images, ordered and unordered lists, task lists, blockquotes, horizontal rules and pipe tables.
Is raw HTML in Markdown allowed?
For safety, raw HTML is escaped and shown as text rather than inserted into the output.
Does it produce a full web page?
No. It produces the HTML for the content only: headings, paragraphs and so on. Place it inside your own page template.
Does it support footnotes or other extensions?
It covers the common Markdown features listed above. Extensions beyond those, such as footnotes, may not be converted, so preview the result.
